WingChun Student Gradings November 2011
On the 23rd, 24th and 26th of November we held three tests for IAW-UK Students. Yet again the overall standard was very high and it was a real pleasure to see the motivation and enjoyment of the attendees as they were put through their paces once more. Congratulations to all of you who took another step towards your goals, whatever they may be.

IAW UK's 5th Anniversary
It has now been five years since Sifu Ed and Sifu Tony became Grandmaster Klaus Brand's representatives in the UK and to celebrate Sifu Brand was here in England for two seminars on the 3rd and 4th September. It was great to see the motivation of the students at both Events and to see the continuing developments to the WingChun system. Five IAW-UK members took and passed grade examinations with Sifu Brand. They are as follows:
Mark Darby, Guy Record and Neil Tuff received the Pre-Primary Level
Colin Dawes received the First Technician Level
Steve Bowler received the second Technician Level.
Also, as a result of discussions with Sifu Brand, Steve Bowler, Steve Robinson and Julian Weston were all officially awarded the title of Sihing (Teacher).
Congratulations to all of the above, and a big thank you to Sifu Brand for his support and inspiration over the past five years.

WingChun Student Gradings April 2011
Congratulations to all IAW-UK students who successfully passed their respective Student Level tests in April 2011. The standard was really high and the motivation and effort of all the candidates was fantastic to see. Each test had a great atmosphere and energy and the new levels were all well deserved. It was also a pleasure to see some new faces from several new groups and it should be noted that all instructors are doing a great job.
Sifu Ed and Sifu Tony.

Big Red Nose success

Thanks to all of the Sevenoaks and Kings Hill students who took part in a Red Nose special class. And all to those who gave so kindly. We raised a total of £54.50 on the evening. A lot of fun and a few interesting suggestions for alternative styles of dress... or undress... in case a future event was planned.
Many thanks to you all

Sifu Klaus Brand Seminar and Test
IAW Founder and Chief Instructor Sifu Klaus Brand was in England again this month.
On Friday 11th February he taught a Technician seminar, on the Saturday there was the first half of some Technician tests, and on Sunday was the all levels seminar and the conclusion of Technician testing.
Sifu Brand taught the existing WingChun programmes as well as some new developments which he has been considering for some years. As always it was an inspiring and informative weekend and our thanks go to Sifu Brand and Sihing Marc Brandt who accompanied him.
We are proud to announce the awarding of three new Technician Grades at the weekend: Greg Willis (2nd Technician), Simon Orpen (1st Technician) and Debbie White (1st Technician). Congratulations to the three of you.

Student Gradings December 2010 and January 2011
Congratulations to the following students who all passed their various Student Grade Levels in December 2010 and January 2011. It is great to see new faces each time a grading comes around as well as recording another step forwards for the more established students. As always, the enthusiasm was infectious and all those grading rose to the challenge. See you at the next step...

End of 2010 celebration
Sevenoaks and Kings Hill celebrated another year of fantastic training with their annual Christmas meal. Again held at the Ginseng Chinese Restaurant in Sevenoaks. The evening started with a few refreshments in a local bar before going for the meal. The food was brilliant and the staff, as always were most effective in bringing refreshments to the tables throughout the evening. We were joined by Sifu Ed, which made it feel like a nice family affair. I have already had requests for another similar evening next year, which I will be arranged. It is a good opportunity for students to talk about other parts of their lives than the WingChun this in the end naturally brings us all closer.

A very happy New Year to all of our members
2011 promises to be another exciting year for the IAW-UK with seminars and events already booked, most notably the celebration of five years as members of the International Academy of WingChun. It was a very proud moment for Sifus Ed Pettitt and Tony Hollander when Grandmaster Brand invited them to represent him in the UK and in September this year, when Sifu Brand is here, we hope you can all come along and join in the fun with lots of training and perhaps a celebratory tipple! The main event will be on Sunday 4th September.
In the meantime, enjoy another year of training and progression and here's hoping you achieve all your goals for 2011.
